I was scheduled to be induced at 37 weeks gestation early in the morning on the 17th due to mild preeclampsia and polyhydramnios. All day Wednesday the 15th I was experiencing mild yet consistent Braxton hicks contractions. Around 4:00 pm my contractions got more consistent and intense, radiating from my back. I told Mike and he decided he wanted to leave work and head into the hospital just to be sure. My mama ended up changing her flight and thank heavens she did because she landed right as we left our house to the hospital. I told her to just meet us there. We checked into the hospital around 6:45 pm. My mom walked in right behind us and was by my side the entire rest of my labor. I was dilated to a 3 and contracting about every 5 minutes. I progressed slowly and was dilated to a 5 by 11 pm. Then the doctor on call made the decision to try and slow my labor because I was 36 weeks still. So they started iv fluids and it worked. My contractions slowed to every 20 minutes. They pumped me full of iv fluids from 11 pm until 7 am. And I didn’t dilate any further. Then my regular doctor came in and made the call to stop the fluids and break my water. It was 8:30 by the time she finished her c sections and was able to come in and break my water she also started low dose pitocin. The contractions picked back up and I continued to dilate. At 11:30 I was dilated to a 7 and asked for an epidural. Around 1:40 I told the nurse I thought I felt pressure but wasn’t sure, my epidural was the strongest one I’ve ever had. She checked me and said it was baby time and she’d call everyone in and be right back. At 1:47 she looked again and said the baby’s head was already mostly out and everyone started scurrying. And my doctor came running from her office. The doctor walked in and within a minute and one tiny push Lottie was in my arms. It was 19 long hours of labor but the fastest easiest delivery. We are so grateful Lottie was ready to join us earth side with no complications.
